How much a sailor is paid in Indian Navy ?

(c) The initial Pay Band for all sailors is Rs.5200-20200. In addition they will be paid Grade Pay @Rs.2000/- plus MSP @Rs. 2000/- plus DA. Artificer Apprentices will be paid an additional ‘X’ Group Pay @Rs. 1400/- plus DA . Promotion prospects exist for all type of entries up to the rank of Master Chief Petty Officer-I (equivalent to Subedar Major) with pay scale of Rs 9300-34800 plus Grade Pay @Rs.4800/- Plus MSP @Rs. 2000/- plus DA.
(d) During the entire period of training and thereafter, sailors are given books, reading material, uniform, food and accommodation etc free of cost. On completion of each phase of training sailors get annual leave on free railway warrant. Sailors are entitled to medical treatment and Leave Travel Concession for self and dependents, Group Housing benefits, and other privileges at Government expense. Insurance cover of Rs. 10,00,000 is given by IHQ MOD (Navy) at a nominal premium of Rs.1000 per month. Sailors also have the privilege to avail up to 60 days Annual Leave and 30 days Casual leave every year. Other benefits include pension after completion of requisite service, gratuity and Accumulated Leave encashment Post retirement. Children education fee and house rent allowances are also admissible.
(e) Opportunities for promotion to the rank of a Commissioned Officer – Several avenues exist for the sailors of Indian Navy to gain the commissioned rank. However, this would entirely depend on the performance of the sailor and on his clearing of prescribed examinations within the age limit as promulgated from time to time.
